To better understand the young people we serve, we have a useful observation which we title “the thirds”.

That is, approximately one-third of our young guests are actively striving to get off of the streets. They ask questions, request help and follow through and complete assignments and tasks. Based on our experiences, we believe this “one-third” will likely become self-sufficient, with our assistance and the assistance of other organizations.

A second one-third are capable of moving forward but are currently stuck in their addiction and other dysfunctional behaviors, and remain comfortable enough for now. They may not see themselves as being chronically homeless, but they are not yet ready to take necessary steps toward becoming self-sufficient.

The final one-third will very likely never break the bond of homelessness. Traumas are too deep, addictions too strong and powerful, and/or mental illnesses too prevalent and overwhelming. Sadly, and tragically, most of these young people will either die young on our streets, end up in institutions, and/ or become chronically homeless.

Wherever a young person may fall within these “thirds,” we provide all of the love, care, support, assistance and services that we can and should!
