We rely on volunteers for almost everything we do. Generally about 200 volunteers give about 2,000 hours a year to maintain the services provided. If you would like to get involved you can complete our online volunteer form.  Your may also contact our drop-in center for a "Volunteer Application" form.

We not only rely on the hard work and dedication of volunteers to provide the bulk of our services, but truly need your financial contribution.  Donations can be made here through our website, postal mail or at our drop-in locations.

Emergency Shelter for Youth

Eagan Warming Center

Ken Harvey

Working together with the Egan Warming Center (a Lane County Coalition of service providers) Hosea Youth Services and Looking Glass New Roads will house those under 21 years of age.  Whenever the temperature drops below 28 degrees we will be open for young people to sleep overnight.  If you would like to help you can go the Egan Warming Center website and sign up for volunteer orientation.  While the frost on the trees is beautiful from the comfort of our homes it can cause dangerous health risks to homeless people camping in wet and worn out  sleeping bags.

Volunteers are needed at all locations and are invited to sign up online.  Beginning November 15th when the weather gets below 28 degrees sites will be staffed from 6 pm to 8 am the following morning.  We look forward to this opportunity to provide a safe warm place overnight and we want to publicly express our appreciation for the continuing hospitality of the good folks  who share their building at the Eugene First Evangelical Church.

Thanksgiving Special

The Abbey and Hosea Youth Services

by Hosea Staff Member

What an awesome partnership.  The Washington Abbey had food and the desire to offer no strings attached love and hospitality to street kids.  Hosea on the other hand had been feeding 60-70 hungry kids a night at the drop-in center with food from Food For Lane County.

A partnership was born.  LTD gave us free passes! The Abbey gave us invitations to distribute and we helped kids find a way to a great Thanksgiving dinner.

Yea! God!

Girls Shelter Partnering With Emerald Baptist

For The Third Year!

by Hosea Staff Member

There have been request and referals from numerous local agencies for us to continue to offer shelter to homeless girls.  We have been contacted by United Way, LookingGlass, New Roads, Sacred Heart, Family Shelter and St. John's Boscoe House for referral placement.

But without the Emerald Baptist Church and Carrie and Bonnie we could not have opened the shelter.  Now we are happy to say the because of the sacrificial service and experienced capabilities of these two and the volunteers they will oversee we have a safe place to house girls off the streets where they will receive care and love and guidence.

As you saw in a previous post Whitney is an example of why this is so critical to our being there for kids who lack resources.

Thank you Bonnie, Carrie and Emerald Baptist Church!

Hosea Bike Repair

Serving youth with self help skills

by Hosea Staff Member

Mark Maricle and David Flores have set up a bike repair station at the First Evangelical Church Drop-In Center.

What a great practical way to teach mechanical skills and help provide "Green" transportation for homeless youth in Lane County.  The bikes and tools donated last year were used to launch this program.

Every Monday the Bike Shop is open with a tool area, workbench and help to tune-up, repair or replace parts on bikes that youth are using for transportation.

We are thankful for this additional expression of concern and opportunity to build friendships while mentoring in the context of a needed skill.  Thanks guys!
