I am continually encouraged by the people and youth who are part of Hosea. I have had the privilege of walking with one of our youth for the last couple of years. We have been through ups and downs but continually God has pursued her and blessed our relationship.

Like in any new relationship, the very beginning — first time meeting — can be somewhat awkward and at times, uncomfortable! What do you talk about? What do you say? Am I not cool enough to hang out with her? How honest should I be? How much should I disclose? All things that the enemy uses to cause separation.

In the beginning we would sometimes we have awkward silences but we laughed through them. We have shared many laughs together, but with that also many tears. Sometimes tears of joy, as when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and sometimes tears of sorrow. Life has a way of not always being “easy”. In those times of sorrow it only strengthened our relationship and sometimes left questions that I couldn’t answer.

What I have seen in her life is not just a product of our relationship, but of the many relationships she has created within Hosea. She has an incredible support system of female volunteers who come around her. In any relationship, with almost any youth, what they want is for someone to show up, be present, do what they say they will, and listen. This is what those women have done for her and we have seen so much fruit from that in her life.

It takes a village is often times a saying I have heard when it comes to raising kids. When I think “village” I think “community”. A community is exactly what has come around her. Whether that be members of the church she is attending, HYS volunteers, or even her peers. She has been surrounded by great people. Even more than that, she is surrounded by a loving and gracious God that has been with her every step of the way.

If you are ever interested in getting more involved with Hosea as a volunteer please contact us on our volunteer page. If you don’t have the time to commit to volunteering, I would ask you to partner with us in prayer!

Thank you to all who have and continue to do one or both of these things for the youth that we serve and Hosea as a whole!
